Don’t Blame BarracK Obama

Large numbers of people in the US are blaming Obama for the state of the US and the world and are threatening to vote for the Republicans and their extremist members. Barrack Obama did not create the world he inherited in 2008. He is only a man and could not perform miracles. Furthermore, as President, he is bound by the ultimate power structure of the USA. He cannot single-handedly make the USA and the world a fairer and more transparent place, Even if he wanted to, he could not pardon Bradley Manning and stop gunning for Julian Assange.

The US establishment is multi-faceted and wields much more power than the president. Yet, the ignorant mob that form the majority of voters in most countries are threatening to elect a president and government that will finally commit the US and much of the world to the primrose path of destruction. The Republicans and the Tea Party would see everything collapse through their ignorance.

Abbott squibs on fight against Ebola

The Abbott govt. has just about written a blank cheque for the war against ISIS or ISIL (Islamic State) but has only given a puny 2 million dollars towards the fight against Ebola, despite the fact that a potential Ebola pandemic is a much more serious threat to the world. The reasons behind this are simple. The war against ISIL, like the search for MH 370 and the investigation of the downing of MH 17 appear glorious activities and distract large numbers of people from the Abbott govt.’s ongoing efforts to ruin Australia and turn it into a complete third world country. The fight against Ebola is less sexy and unlikely to have the political benefit of distracting the population.

One just has to remember the photos of Tony Abbott, when he was opposition leader, in his pristine firefighter’s uniform which didn’t have a single smudge of soot on it. Fake glory and photo ops seem to be his rule of thumb.

Turkey sits on its hands

One wonders what game Turkey is playing. The Turkish government has a once in a lifetime chance of building bridges with its Kurdish population and preventing the ISIS or ISIL capturing the town, Kobane, on its Syrian border. Turkish army units are already close by and could mount a decisive attack on ISIL. Yet the Turkish government does nothing. Instead of building bridges this inaction causes further divisions and trouble within Turkey. Once suspects that its somewhat Islamist government doesn’t want to intervene against a terrorist group that is also Sunni Muslim. Once again, we see sectarianism trumping the common good.

Of course, the geopolitics of gross capitalism have had a share of responsibility for the rise of ISIL but that doesn’t excuse that group from its gross inhumanity.

In Australia, the idiot Prime Minister, Tony Abbott is using this conflict as distraction therapy for the Australian population. He is hoping that they will forget about his attacks on the poor and vulnerable and that his policies are destroying the nation!
