The politics of Fear

Stalin

Fear! Anxiety! Stress overload! Whatever media we choose to observe, the messages are invariably designed to create, fear, anxiety and stress. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, obesity and so on and so on. One wonders why we are being bombarded continually with these messages since they are likely to be counter-productive. The more we are anxious the more we are likely to smoke, drink and eat too much. This universal campaign of fear is very unwise; and also hypocritical since governments around the world don’t want us to live much beyond working age! It is not too much of a stretch to see the retirement and pension age (if there are any pensions at all) set at 95!

Don’t we at least have the right to die in peace without having our anxiety levels constantly raised?
