The secret of being successful in life is learning to like what you have to do rather than having to do what you like!
The Effects of Poverty on Greed
Poverty has a relationship with greed. Those severely affected by poverty develop an attitude in the mind as a survival mechanism. This attitude causes them to “get all they can” and to store up as many material goods as possible as a bulwark against future needs. It particularly applies to money and wealth. What then happens if those people are lifted from poverty into a realm of relative material comfort?
The experience of poverty now encourages greed by entrenching these survival ideas in the psyche. However, these ideas are no longer useful but are instead harmful. When individuals amass much more wealth than they are likely to need they, by giving in to greed, are contributing to the poverty of others. This cycle is likely to repeat itself over and over. Thus the divide between the rich and the poor continues to grow exponentially. Only by following the example of people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and deliberately recycling excess wealth into charitable works can the poverty divide ever be overcome.
The corrupt world shows its spots. Long live Julian Assange!
The New York Post broke the story about how the family of one of China’s highest political leaders has billions, not millions, of dollars during his decade in power. Anyone with half a brain knows that China is not a socialist society! It is a state controlled oligarchy where who you know, rather than what you know is even more important than it is in the world at large. While the greedy and the rich and powerful tend to merge into each other there is little hope for our species and many others! The Islamic World seems to offer no hope either. It either does nothing or else promotes wanton destruction and violence. In fact the Islamic world could be seen as merely compounding the problem of the negatives associated with the human condition.
It is time to break out the black flags of anarchism, which represents a world with only positive constraints and one free from greed and wanton repression!
Comments for end of October 2012
The US presidential election rolls on. We can’t pretend that the results won’t affect us. However, we can remain hopeful that the 21st December, 2012, the end of the Mayan calander, will not spell doom. The fact of the matter is that it may take a little longer. Unless the greedy and the stupid change their ways it is only a matter of time for our species!
30 Aug12 The US Presidential election of 2012
For those who support the election of Mitt Romney and wish more power to the Tea Party and other extreme elements of the Republican Party here is a stark warning.
It was the Republican government of George W. Bush that ran up the massive deficit of trillians in the first place. By fighting at least one unnecessary war (Iraq), along with then VP Dick Cheney’s financial interests in Halliburton, a company which grew rich on post war “reconstruction” contracts the Bush presidency set the stage for the US’s colossal financial disaster. At the same time it vigorously promoted tax cuts for the wealthy, stymied health care reforms along with many other social programs and greatly increased the gap between the rich and the poor. We haven’t even mentioned its sabotage of environmental concerns. The Bush presidency effectively returned the USA, and much of the rest of the world, to the Dark Ages. It could also be argued that the Bush administration did little to head of the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the resulting Global Financial Crisis. It didn’t want to interfere with the process of the seriously rich and the meg rich becoming even richer. No president, not even Barack Obama, could wipe out such a huge deficit and return the country to prosperity in a single term.
Sure, it must be said that governments have to encourage responsible business growth because, if there is no wealth generated then there is nothing to finance even the most noble social and environmental programs on the planet. However, the generation of wealth must be accompanied by a fair and equitable distribution so that society and the planet prosper as a whole. The fiscal conservatives in the US draw a simple dichotomy – either there is the generation of a huge cake with the lion’s share going to a few and crumbs for the others or else there is a cake of ever decreasing size so that everybody ultimately starves. This is dishonesty in the extreme and does all it can to mask the evil of human greed.
Let us hope that the Republicans and the Tea Party loonies don’t gain any further power in the USA. However, I feel that they will given my mistrust of the intelligence and good will of the common man. The Republican Right seems to think that it can return the USA to the “Good Old Days” by abdicating any moral responsibility coupled with a good dose of simple wishful thinking.
If these people win the presidency in the coming election not only will the US suffer massive social crisis and upheaval but also the whole world will move closer to armageddon. I would suggest that intending Republican voters who are of a Christian persuasion closely read the Book of Revelation of St. John since its apocalyptic predicitions are likely to become closer to reality in short space of time.
24Aug12 As Western Society Self Destructs
As Western Society self destructs
The dawn of the present millennium saw the rise and rise of extremist expressions of Islam that threaten any planned world order of tolerance. The ocean tides are rising as our accustomed environment diminishes – Greenpeace and kindred spirits appear futile in their attempts to save a dying planet. While scientists and politicians debate the issues of global warming and holes in the Ozone layer emerging weather patterns render their own verdict.
Questioning is more than desirable; it is essential for not only true prosperity but also for survival itself. Yet the larger issues of Life, which can only be addressed on a world scale – profit v. environment – the few v. the many – have been dealt with only in the most impotent and ephemeral of terms.
While the planet appears to be moving inexorably towards destruction Western governments have wasted inordinate amounts of money, time and brainpower in pursuit of the ultimate party trick. In their self-conceited wisdom they decided that all issues of injustice or unfairness could be solved by legislation. Where discrimination or colour prejudice existed new laws would go a long way towards solving all. If hundreds of thousands of lawyers become substantially richer along the way so be it. It is probably no accident that the majority of the world’s politicians were lawyers before they entered public office.
Legislating against the tide could have been the pie\ce de resistance of our world leaders, doing King Canute proud. If so, it would simply have been ludicrous. No, the finest hour of Western leaders (most of Asia, Africa and the entire Islamic world have resisted the tendency despite failures of their own) was the creation of a fundamentally immovable wedge between the sexes. It is highly doubtful if Emily Pankhurst would smile at the modern Western world. Equality is one thing – an unnatural pantomime quite another.
Thousands of years have passed past as the predominant traditions of the human race developed. The male was the hunter and the protector. He may have had more “political” power than his wife but he had a more dramatic level of responsibility. The traditional female role of nurturing and support is, of course, equally important but failure on the part of the male was likely to result in the imminent death and destruction of the entire family unit. Certainly, in the arachnid world these roles are not the same but until such time as human beings sport eight legs and fangs they should be seriously considered.
The traditional functions of the male and female still lie dormant in the brains of both modern men and modern women. It would be both wrong and useless to blame either sex for the evils befalling Western society. The fault clearly belongs with those “visionary” governmental leaders who thought they could reverse the cycles of nature and/or tradition with a stroke of the pen.
Philosophically sound notions such as equality of opportunity, equality of responsibility, equal pay for equal work and equality before the law have potentially failed. The reasons behind the increasing rate of divorce and the breakdown of the family unit are complex and profound, and have much to do with the increased stresses of modern existence. Yet the Family Law codes of many Western countries give legal equality to the sexes in a way that denies the existence of any fundamental dissimilarity.
Where are we now? Women expect men to provide for and protect them yet Western males have, in many cases, been legally and financially disempowered. Amongst teenagers it can be amusing. The boy and girl earn equal pay at their after-school jobs. They go on a date because they like each other. Still tradition dictates that the boy pay, and human nature being what it is, the girl seldom argues.
When we move on to the adult world of marriage, responsibility and parenting the situation is much more depressing. We have an “equal” world yet few wives are satisfied if their husbands bring home the same or less money than themselves. Given a crisis or economic shortfall in the family, tradition then dictates that the man should solve it. Where are those rustic emblems of the 60’s, Women’s Libbers, now? Nowhere to be found!
It could be argued that our political “visionaries” have created a legal and economic world where the expectations, which men and women hold towards each other, are unlikely to be met. Add to this the pendulum backlash of political correctness, which is so enshrined in law as to be “holy” and the future looks bleak for all of us and none more so than for males of such “boring” ethnic majorities as Anglo Saxon derivatives.
Where is the West now heading? I don’t know but I don’t want to sail on this ship of fools!
23August 2012 Bio of John Spencer
John Spencer started life as a small child in a lower middle class family in Adelaide, Australia. At the age of thirteen his family moved to Sydney (without his complete collection of Walt Disney comics that are now worth a fortune). After the usual teenage years he studied Philosophy at Macquarie University. He learned about people at the same time as making a few dollars driving taxis in Sydney. He spent a year and a half in the UK and Europe, chasing women as young men do, and learning more about life.
As a school teacher he spent many of his holidays sojourning in Asia. These short trips awoken the knowledge that the world is a complex place. In the eighties he pursued a career as a writer (many published travel articles) and domiciled in the Philippines. During that time he learned many of life’s harder facts and came to a greater understanding of the differences between the sexes.
In more recent years he has travelled more extensively through Asia, Europe and the USA. His novel, “Brownout” explores the darkest secrets of human culture and society in a most entertaining way. It can easily be found as an eBook by doing a Google search under “Brownout – 666”

Free Julian Assange and Bradley Manning!
Free Julian Assange! He is a hero of our age. Only by forcing all governments and large corporations to become completely transparent do we have any chance of saving humanity from social destruction. From China to Russia to the USA and all of the countries in the Middle East, Africa and South America only total transparency will stem the tide of abuse of power, corruption and criminal stupidity. The age of the Secret Agent Man is over, or should be! If the world’s human tablet is there for all to see conditions can only improve! The impact of corruption and abuse of power on the environment is another fact that left unfettered will doom our species to extinction!
